My name is Phoua Moua. I am from a small town called Stockton in California. Also, I am of Hmong descent and the oldest in my family, having four sisters and two brothers. Because of this background, I often had to take care of my younger siblings. Seeing them grow up so quickly, I realized how precious time was. This revelation influenced me to complete my Bachelor's in Fine Arts at UC Davis in 2009, where I could immerse myself in artistically forming memories. Shortly afterward, I pursued a Master's in Photography at the Academy of the Arts in San Francisco, where I learned the technical skills of creating memories. With these degrees, I wanted to find ways to capture people's special moments so that they can cherish them thoroughly and perpetually.
In 2007, I took a photography class focused on darkrooms. I was excited because this class was different from what I was used to. On the first day, I used a CANON 35mm film camera. After taking pictures, I processed my first film roll in the darkroom. However, examining the negatives, I discovered they were overexposed, an unwanted result. I realized that photography results differ depending on the style and goal in mind. In this case, I used my digital photography skills to create pictures meant for a darkroom, causing distortions and blurriness. Thus, knowing this, I motivated myself to learn more about the intricacies of darkroom photography, especially camera operation. Outside class hours, I dedicated 3 to 4 hours to understanding dodging and burning techniques. This experience taught me that the one-size-fits-all approach is not sufficient. There is uniqueness and style to every camera intention. Similarly, every wedding is different, so every camera technique I use must reflect that diversity. Now, I am conscientious of the skills and techniques I bring to a camera shoot. I make sure that what I produce beautifully reflects the style of the wedding.
For the past 16 years, I have dedicated my life to photography, offering reliable and compassionate service to my clients. I have photographed a wide range of settings, from natural outdoor scenes to church weddings and intimate beach ceremonies. Whether for an engagement or a wedding, I have the expertise and commitment not just to meet, but exceed your expectations. To me, weddings symbolize the profound love between two individuals. I find joy not only in capturing these ceremonies but also in collaborating with couples. My aim is to craft narratives through my photos, preserving special moments and capturing the essence of my clients' love—the excitement for their future, the defining moments of their present, and the heartfelt emotions that define their journey together.
